Depuis iOS 10 cependant, une étape n’est plus correctement faite dans la protection mise en place quand l’utilisateur choisit de la chiffrer. Le souci a été détecté par la société Elcomsoft, qui a averti Apple dans la foulée. Elle indique qu’iTunes utilise une nouvelle méthode de sauvegarde pour le nouveau système mobile, mais qui ne dispose pas des mêmes sécurités que l’ancienne. D’ailleurs, celle-ci est toujours en place pour les versions antérieures d’iOS.

According to Forbes, Russian iPhone hacking firm Elcomsoft has discovered a vulnerability in iOS 10. Elcomsoft found that, once a user has updated to iOS 10, any backups they perform on their phone makes use of a new “password verification mechanism” that skips a whole load of vital security checks.

Die russische Firma Elcomsoft hat sich auf Software spezialisier, die ohne Nutzer-Zutun iPhones aufsperren kann. Während die Entwickler das Hack-Tool an das iOS 10 anpassen wollten, haben sie eine neue Schwachstelle im System gefunden. In dem Firmen-Blog erklärt der Experte Oleg Afonin etwas verschwommen, dass bei der Anpassung der Software iPhone Breaker an das iOS 10 Elcomsoft herausgefunden habe, dass das iTunes-Backup eines iPhones bis zu 2500-mal schneller mit einer Brute-Force-Attacke entschlüsselt werden könne. Nach Aussagen von Elcomsoft hat Apple einiges am Schutzalgorithmus geändert, so dass unter iOS 10 Brute-Force-Angriffe auf das iPhone leichter werden.
